Elementary
Building a Strong Foundation

The Zion Christian Academy elementary curriculum is taught from a Christian world-view perspective and is designed to challenge our students to reach their highest academic potential. The elementary core-curriculum subjects of study include: reading, math, science, social studies, spelling, grammar and Bible.
The elementary reading program is designed to enable students to learn how to read, as well as to develop critical thinking skills. The Saxon Phonics program is used to accomplish the mechanical portion of our reading instruction. With the Foundations and Frameworks program, our students learn concrete thinking strategies that allow them to evaluate material and to apply its content.
The elementary mathematics program is enhanced by the use of the Saxon Math program. Math concepts are developed, reviewed and practiced over time. Students move from the concrete to the pictorial to the abstract as they advance from grade to grade.
In addition to the core-curriculum, ZCA also offers a broad range of enrichment classes that are included in the students’ weekly schedules. These vital enrichment classes include art, computer, music, physical education, library, band and choir.

Discipleship
At ZCA Elementary we are blessed to be able to participate in making disciples through our Biblically based educational program. Beginning in PreK and following through 5th grade, our students are taught Biblical truths that provide a solid foundation for life and principles that “are able to make them wise concerning salvation” as instructed in II Timothy 3:15. This is accomplished through daily Bible classes, weekly chapel programs, participating in community service and mission projects, and the integration of Biblical truth throughout each discipline of the curriculum. Students also have the opportunity to grow in their love and worship of God by serving on the chapel praise team, participating in prayer walks, as well as being part of prayer groups and Bible studies.
Character

The development of a Godly character takes place both in and out of the classroom. ZCA elementary students have the opportunity to build Christlikeness by participating in extra-curricular programs in which they learn important skills necessary to work well with others. Through the ZCA Spirit Squad our young students are led to work together in harmony to encourage and cheer on our athletes. The elementary cross-country team builds running skills while learning to work with a coach. Students elected to serve on the elementary student council begin developing servant leadership skills that will go with them throughout their lives.
The performing arts are alive and well at our ZCA! All elementary students participate in three productions each year. On Grandparent’s Day students honor their grandparents by performing a special program just for them. The ZCA Christmas Musical is always a seasonal hit with students acting and singing songs that tell of the Savior’s birth! Lastly, spring finds our students bursting forth with song as they perform a spring musical.

Authentic learning often takes place when students can see, touch, hear, and smell the world around them. That is why students at ZCA often leave the school property to take part in educational field trips! From short trips to local farms with preschoolers to overnight stays to visit the Creation Science Museum and the Ark Encounter with fifth graders and everything in between, Zion students are on the move experiencing God’s world in creative and exciting ways.
After School Care and Bus Services
In addition to our educational program, ZCA also offers extra services to assist our parents in other ways. For working parents ZCA elementary offers an early care from 7:00 to 7:15 a.m. at no charge. There is also an extended care program available from 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. each day for an extra charge. School’s Out care is available for parents who need child care on days when school is not in session during the week. ZCA also offers a wonderful Summer program with care available from 7:30 – 5:30 each day. ZCA buses are available to carry students from the Spring Hill and Lawrenceburg areas to and from school each day.
