When the 5th grade teachers issued their annual Christmas challenge, one student, Mary Claire Griffith, went above and beyond expectations.
During the Christmas season, Mrs. Crane and Mrs. Ledbetter give each student $10.00 to bless another person however the Holy Spirit leads them. Mary Claire chose to bless St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, but she did not stop there. She matched the seed money with $10.00 of her own money. Mary Claire kept going. She visited Sunday school classes at her church, First United Methodist, and asked them to join her in giving. She raised more than $1,500. When asked about her decision to support St. Jude, Mary Claire said "My cousin, Emma Griffith fought that battle, and St. Jude helped her. They help kids fight and save their lives every day."
Recently, Mary Claire and her family went to St. Jude for the check presentation and a small tour. Her father, Scott, says, "I would like to personally thank you for challenging all the kids in the 5th grade to be blessings to other people. This has been a great experience, not only for Mary Claire, but for everyone that was involved. Mary Claire has enjoyed this school year immensely, and she has learned so much in and out of the classroom."
