Winter construction has made a mess of the fields.
This fall, the Zion Athletic Booster Club decided to make a major capital improvement aimed at keeping our fans safe. They took down the fence from the baseball and softball fields and are in the process of putting up netting that reaches higher and extends further; this will reduce the number of balls that leave the playing field. "We want to ensure the safety of our fans," said Tommy Fox, Athletic Director. In addition, the net backstop cleans up the playing field and will enhance the game experience for our fans.
With all the construction and snow, mounds of mud and debris have been left behind, and the Booster Club is asking for your help in getting the area ready for spring sports. A work day is scheduled this Saturday, February 3 beginning at 10 a.m. You do not have to be a member of the Booster Club to help; many hands make light work!
The Booster Club would like to say a special thanks to TJ Derrick, father of Hadley and Easton, and Southern Athletic Fields for all their help in getting this work done so quickly.
Practice for middle school spring sports begins this week with high school practices beginning February 12.
