Eagles in Training

Elementary School

It’s never too early to begin learning the important lessons and experience gained by participation in athletics.

Zion Christian Academy offers a number of age-appropriate athletic programs that provide our elementary students with the opportunity to discover their own talents and skills.

Cross-Country

The elementary cross country team begins training in early August.  This year, over 40 students, in grades 2 through 5, made up an energetic and determined team that was led by coaches Cindy Craig, Stephanie Corbin and Carrie Moran.  Training consists of practices, three times a week, that encourages the runners to build up their endurance and speed.  All students compete in the Maury County elementary races held at Columbia-area schools.

Eaglet Basketball

Eaglet Basketball is a favorite past-time among our elementary students and has been part of the lower school athletic program for the past 15 years.

The focus of Eaglet Basketball is to provide quality instruction in the fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, passing and shooting.  Students are then encouraged to participate in a local basketball league so that they may further develop their individual skills and become better acquainted with team concepts.

Currently led by our varsity basketball coach, Tommy Fox, this program runs from November through January of each school year.

Spirit Squad Cheerleading

Zion Christian Academy’s youngest cheerleaders enjoy cheering for the Zion Eagles each fall and raising the spirit of our dedicated Eagle fans. This year there are 58 members that form two teams, The Eaglets (K3 - 1st grade) and the Screaming Eagles (2nd - 5th grade).

Kendra Floyd has been leading the girls for six years and Rachel McGuire joins her this year.  Since its inception in 2010, the program has grown from a group of 25 girls to 58.

Additionally, the girls’ cheering venues have expanded from football only, to home soccer and volleyball games, as well.

The Spirit Squad continues to grow and build on their success as they incorporate new techniques and moves their routines, much to the delight of fans and players alike.
